What We Did
Project Overview
This was one of the most challenging projects we have recently undertaken with the back garden at first floor level and then rising a further eight metres over its length and with access only through the back of a garage and up through a hole into the garden area.
We designed this garden to work on three different levels, with a small courtyard leading from the house living area at first floor level, and which also included an extension forming a new kitchen which we built at the same time.
Steps lead up to the main paved terrace which is at second floor level and a further flight of steps leading up to a vegetable garden at the level of the house roof.
Style & context
Contemporary details
The finish is crisp and contemporary with white rendered walls and porcelain paving throughout. Stainless steel and glass balustrades link the areas together. We added arched niches into the main retaining wall and used reclaimed brick and stone at the upper levels in reference to the mainly Victorian context of this area. Horizontal slatted fencing was used to screen the boundaries. A specimen olive tree adds a nice touch giving a Mediterranean feel.
