Millstone Wheel

A new conservatory extension was the impetus to re-design this garden, the brief being to have an enlarged paved area outside the house with a water feature which can be seen from the conservatory and a linking path up to the shed and greenhouse which were retained at the end of the garden. We designed and built terraces from reclaimed stone walling, some of it existing on site, with a millstone water feature recessed into the wall. The paving is a mixture of new sawn Yorkstone paving and granite “planking” tied together by the use of an interesting off-shade blue brick giving shape and movement to what could have been a large and uninteresting paved area. The curved path to the top of the garden leads the eye and invites visitors to walk to the top and look back down to the house from this raised vantage point.
